Europe does not have a single database covering every dish ordered in every restaurant. However, reports from major delivery platforms provide a useful snapshot of what customers chose in 2025.
According to the Deliveroo 100 report, the year’s highest-ranked individual order was The Classic from Papo’s Bagels in London. The New York-style bagel is filled with smoked salmon, cream cheese, red onion, tomato and capers.
But one popular restaurant item does not necessarily represent Europe’s most frequently ordered type of food. Across different countries, another dish appeared much more consistently: the burger.
United Kingdom: bagels take the top spot
The Classic bagel ranked first in both the UK and Deliveroo’s international list. British customers also favoured sandwiches, chicken tenders, breakfast bao and pepperoni pizza.
The results showed a wider preference for familiar comfort food with distinctive fillings or presentation.
Ireland: the rise of the smash burger
Ireland’s leading order was the Dash Double Smash from Dash Burger in Dublin. It also reached fifth place in Deliveroo’s international ranking.
Three burgers appeared in Ireland’s top ten, alongside burritos, tacos, Korean crispy chicken, pizza and steak. The results make Ireland one of the clearest examples of the smash burger’s popularity in 2025.

Italy: tradition meets customisation
Italy took second place globally with Crea la tua Piadina from La Piadineria in Bologna.
Piadina is a traditional Italian flatbread filled with ingredients such as cured meats, cheese, vegetables or fish. Its customisable format reflects a broader trend: customers want familiar dishes that they can adapt to their own preferences.

A smash burger meal from Rome also appeared in the global top ten.
France and Belgium: premium and classic favourites
France’s leading entry was a lobster roll from Homer Lobster in Paris. It combines a simple street-food format with a premium ingredient.
Belgium was represented by the Classic Cheeseburger from Rambo Saint-Boniface in Brussels — evidence that a well-made classic can still compete with newer food trends.
Spain and Germany: burgers remain strong
In Spain, Just Eat’s latest detailed Gastrómetro report ranked the beef burger ahead of maki and poké. The smash burger was also one of the country’s fastest-growing dishes.
German Lieferando data identified cheeseburgers, chicken burgers and Margherita pizza among popular late-night orders. Bowls, vegetarian dishes and vegan options were also gaining ground.
So, what did Europe order most?
The most prominent individual restaurant order in Deliveroo’s 2025 ranking was a London bagel. But burgers appeared more consistently across European markets, with the smash burger becoming particularly visible.
The wider trend was equally clear: diners preferred recognisable dishes that were easy to order, convenient to eat and simple to customise.
The bagel won the ranking, but the burger won Europe.
